Easy Lynchburg Lemonade Recipe

In addition to whiskey, you’ll need the orange liqueur triple sec, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and lemon-lime soda, plus lemon slices for garnish. The original recipe called for sour mix, but we’ll let that remain in the ’80s and instead use freshly squeezed juice and simple syrup. If you’d prefer your drink on the less-sweet side, you can try using homemade sparkling lemonade or a high-quality lemon soda such as San Pellegrino Limonata. And finally, if the Jack Daniel’s legal battle leaves you seeing red, feel free to swap in a different Tennessee whiskey, such as George Dickel or Uncle Nearest. Developer Michelle McGlinn shares below her take on the controversial (but delicious) lemonade, using an easy homemade sour mix and sparkling water. Of course, you’ll also need a bottle of Jack; after all, Mason and the distillery didn’t go through all of that for any old whiskey. We visited the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, TN last year and tried an authentic Lynchburg Lemonade.

In good faith, Mason told Randle the recipe and only asked to credit him should Jack Daniels decide to promote the drink. Two years later, a Jack Daniels sales representative, Winston Randle, came to the place and was introduced to Mason’s creation. Randle enjoyed the serve and asked about the recipe – and that was when the trouble began. When he decided to serve the drink to his guests at his xcritical reviews restaurant and lounge, he received positive feedback throughout.

How to make a Lynchburg Lemonade

Try Memphis pulled pork sandwiches or Nashville hot chicken with a side of black-eyed pea salad. Mason sued the distillery for their promotion of Lynchburg Lemonade and for their alleged misappropriation of his recipe for that beverage. An extensive jury trial ensued; after four days of testimony, the jury returned a verdict in the amount of $1 in punitive damages for Mason. Randle shared the recipe with his superiors, and approximately a year later, Jack Daniel’s Distillery began a national campaign promoting the recipe. The drink was so popular, the bar sold T-shirts and he even renamed his band, which performed at the restaurant, to Tony Mason and the Lynchburg Revue.

The great thing about the authentic Lynchburg Lemonade, is you only need four ingredients. The key, of course, is to use Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey.
